GET
LOCKED UP FOR WINTER! (OCT 2005)
IT'S
THAT time of year again! The evenings are getting darker, the clocks
will shortly be going back and it's time to check you have sufficient
security measures in place to protect your car, caravan, garage
and property.
Most
vehicle theft takes place during the evening or at night and the
longer and darker evenings provide more cover for thieves to check
out potential victims and carry out their crimes. The more layers
of security you put in place, the harder you will make it for any
thief and the more likely they are to look elsewhere.
Fit
a security post in your drive, wheel clamp and hitch lock on your
caravan and high visibility steering wheel lock to your car, such
as the attack-tested and approved Autolok 2000 Plus or EXS, and
there's an excellent chance that any thief will simply drive on
by.
Don't
forget your garage. Many people use garages as an extension to the
home, storing thousands of pounds of gear behind garage doors that
can be broken into in seconds. Some people don't even lock their
garages! If there's a link-door to your house, your garage could
well be the easiest way in for a thief, so extra garage security,
such as an Autolok Stoppa, would be a small price to pay.
Bikes,
scooters, mowers and tools can be anchored to garage floors with
a good ground anchor and chain, such as the virtually indestructible
Hardie-Secure ground anchor. They're Sold Secure approved and come
in different sizes.
"Good
lighting both inside and outside the house is also a great deterrent
- but make sure car keys are well away from doors and windows. Increasingly
thieves have been using fishing rods or magnets to hook keys and
steal them through the letterbox," warns Dave Brearley, managing
director of security specialists, Autolok.
To
help you choose the best options for yourself this winter, Autolok
have brought together a range of new security devices on their new
website at www.autolok.co.uk with special offers available on new
products and existing best sellers.
Some
two million vehicle related thefts occur every year in the UK, many
of which could have been prevented at relatively low cost. Don't
become a victim yourself this winter.
